My research interests fall within the fields of sound, literature, digital culture, reading, music, medialization and phenomenological aspects of aesthetic experience. I focus on the unique epistemological potential of sound with respect to how we sense and experience the world, and in studies of e.g. the digital audiobook I have researched how sound is constituted and changed by the cultural discourses in which it is active. This topic I have explored in as diverse phenomena as 20th-century literature and music (Virginia Woolf, Gunnar Björling, John Cage and Maurice Ravel), Danish rap music, poetry slam and digital audiobooks.

2019-2023, PI on the project “Reading Between Media – Developing and Encouraging Children’s Multisensorial Reading in a Digital Age” funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. In a school context, the project seeks to determine what characterises multisensorial reading through e.g. empirical studies of the didactic advantages of specific reading practices, audiobook reading and app reading, which activates several senses. The project aims to rethink the reading activity and to help school children acquire multisensorial reading competences, which may contribute to improving their digital competences, love of reading and commitment to reading and to strengthening their academic self-confidence; i.e., this also includes readers with negative experiences of own reading competences. The project is performed in a collaboration between VIA University College, Malmø University, The Municipality of Silkeborg, and Aarhus University.
